Remembering our Heroes

If you know me personally you know that Memorial Day is especially important to me and you know why.  For those who don’t know, my cousin Sgt. Matthew E. Mendoza was killed in action on June 20, 2008 while serving in Afghanistan.  He and many others have paid the ultimate price.  It’s my job to keep his memory alive.  While you might be enjoying your day off and spending quality time with friends and family, I ask you to take a moment and remember those who gave so much.

Each year a Scholarship Fundraiser is held in Matthew’s name and benefits students from Highlands High School.  If you’re in the San Antonio area, this year the event will be held at the VFW Post 76 on Friday, May 30th.  BBQ plates will be sold for $6 and raffle tickets are being sold at $2 each or 3 for $5.  Come out and support if you can.  You can find more details here.
